Effective data for connected consumers

Consumers are now more connected than ever. New technologies allow users to easily receive real-time information on options, reviews, and price; and this has a significant impact on their behaviour and relationships with brands. This is particularly evident in the travel and transportation industry, and it's important for businesses to embrace new digital technology and be able to effectively collect and analyse data into actionable insights.

Airline systems integration

Air Discount Scheme (ADS) gives residents and businesses in the Highlands and Islands a 40% discount on air fares to and from the main Scottish islands. Our challenge was to create a web based solution to enable the watertight implementation of the scheme.

We designed and built the website and ADS membership database to interface seamlessly in real time with airline and travel agent booking systems. That means members simply book their flights in the usual manner – online, by phone or in person, using their membership number and PIN. Their membership is instantly verified and the discount is applied automatically during the booking process.

The scheme uses a secure database of members, which we host on an enterprise platform. The system is web based and allows access and upgrades to be applied at the Inverness based head office of the scheme.

As members’ dates of birth are held on the system, automated processes have been introduced to pro-actively alert the administrators when new card members turn 16.

Multilingual campaigns

Skyscanner is a travel fare aggregator and travel metasearch engine; comparing flight, hotel, and car hire prices from more providers than anyone else in the market. We have worked with Skyscanner on a number of campaigns to make this information more accessible and position them as hought-leaders for the travel industry as a whole, with a nod to their own special DNA of originality and creativity.

Projects have included infographics showing consumers the best time to book to get the best price on flights, a series of animated microsites for their vision of how travel might look in the future, and general support and maintenace of their open source news platfrom.

This work has involved integrating Skyscaneer's own API to offer user's live prices for destinations once they express an interest in them, have a strong emphasis on social networking and respect conventions from a number of different markets and languaes around the world.
