Client brief and objectives

Volunteer Centre Edinburgh (VCE) works with volunteers and volunteer involving organisations in the Edinburgh area.

We were commissioned in 2010 to design and built a website to support the following key areas of functionality:

  • Structured system for presenting information resources
  • Blogging harnessed to email digests
  • Volunteering opportunities served on-site
  • Enhanced case studies
  • Integration with email marketing software

Our approach

We developed two creative routes which reflected the requirements above to encourage and excite users about volunteering, explaining the benefits and diversity of the experience.

Once agreed, the design formed the basis of the look and feel for the site and HTML templates. Our Build team worked closely with all other teams (Creative, Content, and Technical) to ensure the site structure, templates, layout and styling were all in place and correct to the specification.

As part of the development work our Content team evaluated the site and made suggestions for the best site plan and content to include for the website.

Before sign-off we provide all content editors with training in our CMS, Content Control.

Results and effectiveness

This website has undergone a soft launch. The site is topical, lively and up-to-date with tangible examples of what it means to start volunteering. The team and Volunteer Scotland are currently in the process of completing the migration of content into the CMS.
